How Do I Share The Gospel With Catholics
This really applies to every works based faith such as, Mormonism, Catholicism, Buddhism, Jehovah’s Witness, Muslim, etc.
Not ALL Catholics are lost, but largely, the Catholic church is an apostate church. With all of the traditions and rituals they hold to as the Pharisee’s did of Christ’s day, their system is vastly flawed and demands works on man’s part in order for them to obtain salvation.
It was the Catholic Monk – Martin Luther – who, while studying the book of Romans, was changed by verses 16 and 17 of chapter 1:
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith ; as it is written, BUT THE RIGHTEOUS man SHALL LIVE BY FAITH.” (romans 1:16-17.)
The apostle Paul was always emphasizing justification by faith instead of by works because he, being a pharisee of the pharisees, knew very well that they were all WORKING toward EARNING heaven. That’s why, over and over again, Paul calls salvation a “Gift.”
HOW TO SHARE THE GOSPEL WITH CATHOLICS
Look at how Jesus witnessed to someone caught up in a works based religion: Nicodemus.
“Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews; 2 this man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher ; for no one can do these 4signs that You do unless God is with him.”3Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”4Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old ? He cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born, can he?”5Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6″That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.7″Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.”
Walk a Catholic friend or family member through this passage. Jesus tells the Pharisee Nicodemus that he needed to be born again. That was something that he could play no part in. As much as Nicodemus played no part in his physical birth, Jesus was telling him he could play no part in his own spiritual birth, other than faith. Just believe with all your heart.
Familiarize yourself with John 3:1-21 and use that section as a means for evangelism to those who are stuck in false systems, attempting to earn a gift, that they could never afford.
